In 2016, women make up over half of the professional and technical workforce in America -- but that did not come easy. Back in the 1950s, only 33.9% of women were involved in the labor force -- some of their most common job titles included teacher, nurse, and dispatcher. Today, the number of women participating in the labor force has increased to 57% -- and it's not uncommon to meet a woman with a high ranking leadership position. So, since women are now working in the same fields as men -- they're obviously earning the same amount of money as men, right? Wrong. Women reportedly earn 79 cents per every dollar a man makes, and that number only decreases for women of color.
